Housekeeping on construction sites

The most significant issue on construction sites is 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴. In reality, sloppy housekeeping is to blame for a significant portion of workplace accidents.

Poor housekeeping creates dangers that can result in injuries, which adds to accidents. Other hazards may be taken for granted if the sight of paper, debris, clutter and pills are accepted on the worksite.

𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀:

✅ Tripping over loose objects on floors, stairs, and platforms;

✅ Being struck by falling objects

✅ Slipping on greasy, wet, or dirty surfaces

✅ Running into protruding, improperly stacked objects or materials

✅ Cutting, puncturing, or tearing the skin of hands or other parts of the body on projecting nails, wire or steel strapping

𝐀 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 "𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧" 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬.

𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻:

✅ Reduced handling of materials to ease material flow

✅ Fewer tripping and slipping accidents in clutter-free and spill-free work areas

✅ Decreased fire hazards

✅ Lower worker exposures to hazardous substances (e.g., dusts, vapors)

✅ Better control of tools and materials, including inventory and supplies

✅ More efficient equipment cleanup and maintenance

✅ Better hygienic conditions improving health

✅ Improved morale and improved productivity (tools and materials will be easy to find)

✅ Removal of unwanted materials

✅ Regular inspection to make sure cleanup is completed
